ENTERPRISE SERVICES DEPARTMENT
KTTC STRATEGY FOR INCOME GENERATION
Enterprise Services is a department with the overall responsibility of initiating and overseeing enterprise activities in order to generate revenue for the college. This department will provide a conducive environment for the entire KTTC fraternity to generate income.
It is under the function of undertaking of Income Generating Activities through production, consultancy, and tailor made short courses, part-time courses, facility hiring and hospitality services to complement government grants and fees revenue that the Enterprise Department functions.
The Enterprise Department will coordinate all enterprise processes in the college and facilitate the creation of profitable business units in all college departments. The departments in the college have adopted appropriate cost recovery strategies coupled with integrated modern technology, creativity, quality procedures and customer focus to offer products and services that meet the needs of the target market.
Income generating strategies
ES will coordinate the following services;
a) Departmental training services
The academic departments will offer market driven courses in order to increase student
enrollment and diversify the courses already on offer. The ES department has already
requested the other departments to identify such courses.
b) Hospitality services through the IM hotel facility
The ES department has solicited for quotations from financiers to enable the completion
of the facility the soonest possible.Upon completion, the facility will be able to generate
income through accommodation, meals, conferencing and other hotel services.
A concept paper for the funding model has also been developed by the department.
c) Short need based courses
The ES department has developed a short term need based courses. These are to be
offered to the identified target participants.These courses will be offered throughout
the year. A brochure will be produced on an annual basis to describe the target group,
the content and schedule of such courses.
d) Hiring of facilities
The ES department will coordinate the hiring of the college facilities field/hall for
weddings, meetings, conferences, parking, and for erection of bill boards. The ES
department will develop a brochure to promote the facilities to the outside world.
e) Consultancy services
The ES department will carry out consultancies based on client’s Terms Of Reference.
The department will bid through expressing its interest in carrying out such
consultancies. The department will work closely with all KTTC staff in bidding for
f) Nursery school
The ES department is to work closely with the nursery school administration to
restructure the nursery school operations in order to attract more pupils and increase
g) Incubation centre
The ES department has put a plan in place on how the incubation centre will be
completed and become operational. It is projected that the first incubatees will occupy
the centre in January 2015.
The ES department will coordinate the establishment of collaborations with other
colleges and universities in offering our training services in order to widen our reach and
access our services to a large clientele within and outside Kenya.
ES will ensure that the engineering departments carry out work components to meet customer requirements. This will be accomplished through the undertaking of contracts to implement works for clients. The departments will undertake subcontracts in construction work and will start bidding for such works. The ES department will establish linkages with construction firms, County governments, institutions and other government agencies. To these process is the Building and Civil Engineering department and Electrical Engineering department. However, the two departments have to meet certain registration requirements before they can hit the ground. These requirements include;................. KEBS, Ministry of Public works,
The production units will be strengthened so that they will be able to produce products to meet customer requirements i.e., manufacturing and fabrication of products using the college workshops. The departments that will drive this process are the engineering and Institutional Management. Products to be produced include and not limited to furniture, fittings, furnishing, implements and parts etc.
ES will organize events in and outside the college to bring together customers with common interests. These will include and not limited to;
The department will continuously encourage innovations and creativity from all departments and the entire KTTC community in order to develop more IGAs. Ideas such as motor vehicle servicing and car wash services have been proposed and the idea is being considered for implementation.
