The office of the Deputy Principal in charge of Academic Affairs was created some time in September 2013 in line with the KTTC Strategic Plan of 2013 to 2017 which in turn had responded to the needs to offer quality service delivery in education and in training of TVET institutions. The office is in charge of the core business of KTTC which has to do with timetabling, teaching and evaluation.

The actualization of the Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC) vision and mission lies squarely on the shoulders of the Deputy Principal in charge of Academic Affairs, often, referred to as DP.AA. The KTTC vision is to be a first class institution in technical teacher education and technology, while the mission is to provide quality training in technical teacher education and technology by offering relevant programmes. How then do we actualize the vision and mission? It all starts at the time when students apply to come to KTTC; first and foremost they must meet the relevant requirements for admission. This helps to ensure that we admit serious students, who will be able to go through the course with ease, and that time tables, course outlines, class attendance and evaluation are as per the academic policy and ISO standard procedures.

To ensure that quality and relevant education is offered to our students, the Deputy Principal (AA) chairs the Academic Committee which comprises the Registrar, The Dean of Students, all Heads and Deputy Heads of Academic Departments. The Academic Committee is extremely important as the members spearhead new programmes and courses. Before any programme or course is implemented it must be presented, discussed and critiqued, and approved by the Academic Committee. Apart from that, the Academic Committee guarded by the Academic Policy and ISO procedures of teaching and evaluation has a role of awarding final marks to the students. In the Final Awards Meeting, all marks of students are presented, discussed and awarded. Whenever there are any problems affecting standards, the Deputy Principal in charge of Academic Committee guided by the resolutions made in the committee meetings takes action. The guiding principle of the Academic Committee is to ensure that standards are maintained and that only the best products are filtered into the field


The office of the Deputy Principal AA ensures that term programmes and time tables are made in time and all lessons are taught efficiently and effectively by our lecturers who are highly qualified. As for the students, it is mandatory that they attend classes regularly, do their assignments, continuous assessment test and examinations to the best of their ability. Only students who meet the requirements are released to schools, technical institutions, youth polytechnics or the industries. Before the students finally graduate, they would have passed through both training and practice, that is, course work, teaching practice or attachment

All the departments help in ensuring that relevant courses are offered. To remain relevant, the office of Deputy Principal in charge of Academic Affairs has facilitated the teaching of  second subjects as per the requirement of one employer and also the employer of most of our students teachers: Teachers Service Commission. The recently introduced second teaching subjects include: English, Physics and Mathematics.These subjects are combined with relevant technical subjects such as Information Communication Technology, Business Education or engineering subjects.  It is our hope this will open doors to our students.


New courses such as Solar Energy and other Education Competency Based Training courses have been introduced, while others are in the pipe line. This will ensure that we meet the market demand of training teachers for technical institutes, Youth Polytechnics and the “a million plus artisans.”


Under the docket of Deputy Principal Academic Affairs, KTTC is in the process of spreading its wings far and wide. There are two KTTC daughter colleges that have been mentored by K.T.T.C Masai Mara Vocational Training Institute which was officially opened by the Deputy President and a college in Marasabit which is  almost being completed.In addition we have been collaborating with other a number of institution to offer technical skills and training.Such institution include Coast Institute of Technology to train children;Pipeline,American Embassy,Directorate of Criminal Investigation,AA driving school to name just but a few. Furthermore, we are collaborating with Sangalo Institute of Science and Technology to train instructors of Youth Polytechnics in Bungoma County. Other such collaboration are in the pipe line. KTTC has spread its wings to Somalia and is collaborating with Save the Children (NGO) to train trainers and managers. We are also collaborating with AA driving school to train driving instructors. It is our hope that our wings will spread to other regions of East Africa and beyond.      

In conclusion, the office of the Deputy Principal Academic Affairs is keen to monitor where the college is where it should be in future in as far as academics is concerned. It is the hope of the office of Deputy Principal (AA) that our dream of offering degrees will be materialized soon, so that our clients number one (our students) will continue remaining relevant. In line with the TVET our pride is ensuring access, equity, relevance and quality in the programmes and courses we offer so as to play a role in actualizing our beloved country’s vision 2030.
